Reactions from the Featured Families

"Your movie was extremely well done and entertaining.  I enjoyed watching it and it kept my attention from start to finish."
-Steve Sonnenberg

"It took insight, and let us say heart, to put that together in such a meaningful way.  A wonderful blend of history and reminiscences via interviews dovetailed with photos of people, activities, geology and the oil patch.  This was a very personal look into the world of geology and geologists."
-Larry and Barbara Meckel

"What a splendid achievement in 'Geo Families'!  'Geo Families' is a skillful and considerate blend of opinions and thoughts...a refreshing tribute to people who get along in work that is good for the community.  [The film] is an impressive example of achievement when ego is in the proper place - subordinate to a bigger, noble idea."
-Ron Pritchett

"The 'Geo Families' DVD is now on the top rung of Stewart family items and will be passed on to future generations with a large amount of love and understanding!!!  However, the greatest accomplishment of being a part of this documentary is the passion of geology, as well as the geologic family, that was exuded by all parties involved and captured in all of its intellect, comedy and thoughtfulness!!"
-Daryl Stewart

People in the Film

Robert and Paul Weimer:  Dr. Bob Weimer has been associated with the Colorado School of Mines for 50 years as a faculty member and community leader.  A former AAPG President and active member of countless geologic societies, he's also had the pleasure of watching his son enjoy great success in the field.  Dr. Paul Weimer is a tenured professor and holds the Bruce D. Benson Endowed Chair in Geology at CU-Boulder.  Paul Weimer has written two books, co-edited nine and published more than 100 papers.

Frank and Steve Sonnenberg:  Frank's career stretches back to 1951 when he sat on the Amerada #1 Iverson, the discovery well for the Williston Basin.  His lifelong dedication to geology and the geologic community rubbed off on his son, Steve.  Steve is a former AAPG President and lifelong geologist who is tirelessly active in the geologic community.

Paul and Daryl Stewart:  Independent to the core, Paul and Daryl worked together at their two man company Stewart Petroleum for twenty years.  Outgoing and charismatic, their unwavering optimism has carried them through the toughest of times and created an uncommon bond.  Paul formed Stewart Petroleum with his son Daryl in 1985 after 25 years in the industry.  Paul led a number of oil and gas companies to success including the successful reorganization of King Resources in 1978, the largest oil company bankruptcy in US history at that time.

Larry, Barbara and Tip Meckel:  Eloquent and thoughtful, Larry found his perfect match in Barbara.  Her direct approach to life and geology compliments his imagination and creativity, and together they've traveled the world and raised four sons.  Tip was practically raised by geology and followed his parents into the field.

Jim and Brian Richter:  Jim advised Brian against geology, so Brian decided to get his degree and a job before telling dad.  Jim is a no-nonsense, straight talking independent and Brian is an articulate frontier style geologist whose extensive work in Central America speaks to his sense of adventure.

Russ, Wes and Brad Pomeroy:  Russ, a Stanford alum and former all-region football star, has a quietly commanding demeanor and a strong moral compass.  Wes and Brad's colorful stories about geology and the family oil business are always filled with respect for their father and his accomplishments.

Frank and Ron Pritchett:  Philosophical and lighthearted, Frank and Ron have seen it all and come out smiling.  Quick with a joke, Ron is just as quick to discuss geologic phenomena.  Now retired, Frank is still visibly in awe of the world around him; the consummate geologist.
